A Dream Born Amid Challenges
Dr. Karthiram’s journey started back in 2015. Like many aspiring doctors, his NEET UG score wasn’t what he had hoped for. Instead of giving up or taking a drop year, he made a bold decision to pursue his medical studies in China, where he did his undergraduate studies at Chengdu University. Despite being away from his home country, he always held onto the belief that NEET PG would be his moment to shine and he would qualify with two-digit rank in NEET PG. From the very first year of medical school, this conviction stayed rooted in his heart.
Even, he did not have the online education portals as most of the students do now. He studied from standard textbooks and day in and day out solved all those printed review books, which were in the shape of endless MCQs. While others would have been disheartened due to lack of resources or support. Karthiram passed out FMGE 2020 with a notable score of 241 out of 300. But, he didn’t stop there.
The Road Less Traveled
The transition from FMGE to NEET PG wasn’t easy. After completing his internship in 2022, Karthiram took his first attempt at NEET PG and secured a rank of 688—a rank most would celebrate. But deep down, Karthiram knew this wasn’t his best. He had studied during his internship and faced a hectic schedule while balancing work and internship. But when a new rule required two years for Chinese graduates due to Covid-19, it was a devastating moment. Just before counselling, he got to know that he wouldn’t be able to live his dream this year.
Imagine being so close to your dream but he didn’t break in fact he chose to welcome the extra time up his sleeve as an opportunity to grow. He channelled all his energies once again into studies with renewed vigour.
Success Mantra: To Succeed In NEET PG
For Karthiram 2023 was a year of transformation. With a Clear goal in mind, he joined his second-year internship at Sabdarjung Hospital in Delhi with a clear goal in mind. He teaches aspiring medical students the importance of a strategic approach to preparation. Instead of last-minute cramming, he adopted a slow and steady approach, studying a minimum of four hours every day and more. For him, the key wasn’t studying for 12 hours but maintaining consistency and discipline.
To succeed in NEET PG, he believed “You have to be obsessed with your goal. It shouldn’t let you sleep, and you shouldn’t have a plan B. Plan B is to achieve Plan A.”
A Message of Hope and Determination
Many can relate to Karthiram if they feel that they may be drowned or discouraged. He understands the pains of FMG students and has an impactful message for them: “Many think that FMG and NEET are on different levels, but they aren’t. The difference is just 10% of the syllabus. In six months, while doing your internship, you can cover that gap.“
His message is clear: Don’t let temporary setbacks define your journey. Instead, use this energy to focus on consistent focused study. Set a daily goal of four to six hours, and stay the course.
